BUKIT LAWANG, NORTH SUMATERA
Sumatra is an island in western Indonesia. It is the largest island in entire Indonesia and the sixth largest island in the world.
 The island includes more than 10 National Parks, including 3 which are listed as the Tropical Rainforest Heritage of Sumatra World Heritage Site—Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park.
And this island is home to 201 mammal species and 580 bird species.
Orangutan, the world’s largest arboreal mammal, means “people of the forest†(Orang – people, Hutan – forest) in Indonesian. Once they were widespread throughout Southeast Asia, but now wild orangutans are limited to only two places in the world, Sumatra and Borneo.
Bukit Lawang is a small tourist village on the bank of Bahorok River in North Sumatra province of Indonesia. Situated approximately 86 km northwest of the city of Medan, Bukit Lawang is known for the largest animal sanctuary of Sumatran orangutan (Pongo Pygmaeus Abelii) and also the main access point to the Gunung Leuser National Park from the east side.
