WONDERFUL MINAHASA
The name Manado, which is derived from the Minahasan Language, comes from manadou or wanazou meaning "on the far coast" or "in the distance" and originally referred to the further of two islands which can be seen from the mainland.

ABOUT MANADO
Manado City is the capital of the province, the former stronghold of the Dutch and the cultural center of the Minahasa people, for a long time Manado prospered through trade with the nearby Philippines and the spice trade with the rest of the world. Christianity is the dominant religion in Manado, you may see the Christ Statue Hillstop when you enter the city.
The climate is about 32 degree celcius. There is a highland city called Tomohon. You may find the best scenery from mountain, waterfall, and lakes.

BUNAKEN NATIONAL PARK
This is established since 1991, Bunaken is one of Indonesia's most famous diving and snorkeling areas and it draws visitors from all over the world. In addition to banana-shaped Bunaken Island itself, the 890 km2 of marine national park includes the neighboring islands of Manado Tua (a distinctive cone-shaped extinct volcano), Siladen, Mantehage, Nain, and Nain Kecil.

Some 20,000 local inhabitants make their living from the waters in the Bunaken National Marine Park, and this has inevitably led to some conflicts. By and large though, the co-operation between national and local government authorities, conservation groups, business owners and local communities has been very successful here. This has led many to cite Bunaken as a model example of how Indonesia should be preserving its natural marine treasures.

For those who enjoy scuba diving, this is a great place to be. With about 20 dive spots to choose from, divers will have the chance to swim below the sea, and frolic joyfully while admiring the sea creatures. Most diving takes place near Bunaken and Manado Tua, because of the many excellent sites. The following are representative of dive spots in the area.Lekuan Walls (I, II, III)This long wall at Bunaken is divided into three sites: the Lekuan I, II and III. Together they are the park's best.

    Tinutuan Porridge (Highly Recommended)
What is Tinutuan Porridge? Typical Manado cuisine is the result of an abundance of highly flavored herbs combined with a touch of spiciness, giving every dish a unique and deliciously rich flavor. Tinutuan porridge is no exception. This vegetarian dish – popularly known as Bubur Manado - is a unique combination of savory and spicy flavors with a splash of freshness. the appearance of Tinutuan is very much like a big jumble of vegetables atop a bowl of rice. The vegetables included in the mix are pumpkin, sweet potato, cassava, kangkung (watercress), corn, spinach and a few others. These vegetables are spiced with garlic, lemongrass, bay leaves, ginger and salt.

Try also PANADA, BALAPIS, LALAMPA, ROA Fish, and RED BEAN ICE.
